Are you having trouble finding, training and retaining volunteers? Join us on April 22 and May 13 at the Bucks County Historical Society's Mercer Museum as we look at the challenges of volunteerism today and discuss strategies for meeting those challenges.

All Hands on Deck is a two-session workshop that will help you assess your current volunteer program and plan for its future. On April 22, Susan J. Ellis, president of Energize, Inc. and an expert on non-profit volunteering, will fill you in on national and regional trends. On May 13, Susan Randolph, executive director of the Marshall Steam Museum and Friends of Auburn Heights, Inc., will share her experiences working to “grow” an established volunteer program.

In the first session, you will receive a homework assignment, a detailed questionnaire that will help you assess your current program. In the second meeting, we will discuss what you learned, and we’ll work together on activities including writing volunteer job descriptions and application forms and planning for a new volunteer handbook.

This History Affiliates program is co-sponsored by Sustaining Places–a collaborative resource project from the Museum Studies Program at the University of Delaware and the Tri-State Coalition of Historic Places. The workshop will include coffee and snacks; please plan to bring your own lunch and eat on site.
