2015-01-20 14:41

HSP is excited to host a Financial Literacy Teacher Workshop on February 7th, focused on teaching students of all ages fun ways to learn about ecnomics using Westward Expansion games and topics such as the Progressive Era. Lunch is provided to all teachers as well as a discussion with Keynote Speaker, Andrew Yarrow.

The program features the Wells Fargo Financial Literacy Plan, political cartoons from the Progressive Era, and documents from the Bank of North America. These primary sources will help students explore many artifacts including, old bank notes, Western Union telegraphs, lines of credit, and account books. It will also provide examples of how to teach students broader economic concepts using Progressive Era Political Cartoons that focus on the introduction of government regulations, big business, and the effects of a free market economy. The Wells Fargo Financial Literacy plan even contains an exciting westward expansion game that can work with all ages.

The morning will conclude with our Thrift Week speaker Andrew Yarrow. He will discuss his new book Thrift: The History of an American Cultural Movement over lunch.
