Photo of a painting (detail) by Horace Bonham depicting the square outside the York County Court House, November 1777, when Congress received the news of Burgoyne’s surrender at Saratoga. Bonham used an 1830 print as the model for his work, and thus rendered the scene inaccurately by including the gables and cupola on the court house which were not added until 1815 and buildings not present in 1777.
