Contact Lesson Overview

Content Objectives

  1. Understand the idea of worldview as a component of cultural difference
  2. Understand key differences between Native American and European worldview vis a vis time, property, land, communication, and social/political relations.
  3. Understand how these differences shaped interactions such as diplomacy and land transactions.
  4. Understand how life on the frontier brought diverse individuals into contact with one another and how individuals’ identities and lives were changed as a result of that contact.
  5. Understand the conflicts between Native Americans and European settlers in the backcountry mid 18th century that led to violence and war.

Skill Objectives

  1. Strengthen reading comprehension through review of historic texts
  2. Develop critical thinking skills by learning to interpret primary source materials
  3. Understand point of view in historical narratives and how it shapes the telling of history.
  4. Distinguish different points of view for historical events
